This book is everything I didn’t know I needed in my life. It is filled with such rich and complex characters. Drix and Elle are so very relate-able. Katie’s writing not only pulled me in but I was fully invested in these characters and their families before I knew it. Drix’s struggle to get away from his past and be a better person for not just his family but for himself had me in tears half the time. It’s a struggle a lot of us can relate too, breaking the chains, breaking the habits that feel ingrained into us sometimes from birth. I was really surprised to see Elle’s character growth go the direction it did! Elle is the perfect example of how to handle yourself with GRACE in some downright creepy situations. It is amazing to see her realize the expectations she was under as a political candidates daughter and take what SHE wanted from the situation and turn it around. I love well written female characters! It was not what I was expecting and by the end of the book I was cheering for both these kids to come out on top of their situations.
Overall it was such a great read!! Prepare for yourself for all the feels!
SAY YOU’LL REMEMBER ME Synopsis:
“Doesn’t matter who did it. Not anymore. I did the time. It’s over.”
When Drix was convicted of a crime–one he didn’t commit–he thought his life was over. But opportunity came with the Second Chance Program, the governor’s newest pet project to get delinquents off the streets, rehabilitated and back into society. Drix knows this is his chance to get his life back on track, even if it means being paraded in front of reporters for a while.
Elle knows she lives a life of privilege. As the governor’s daughter, she can open doors with her name alone. But the expectations and pressure to be someone she isn’t may be too much to handle. She wants to follow her own path, whatever that means.
When Drix and Elle meet, their connection is immediate, but so are their problems. Drix is not the type of boy Elle’s parents have in mind for her, and Elle is not the kind of girl who can understand Drix’s messy life.
But sometimes love can breach all barriers.
Fighting against a society that can’t imagine them together, Drix and Elle must push themselves–Drix to confront the truth of the robbery, and Elle to assert her independence–and each other to finally get what they deserve.
